I love great authentic Japanese food, and I'm very picky about. I know good Japanese food because my mother is from Japan and I know good Japanese food. It's hard to find authentic Japanese food, I don't like Chinese food or Korean people trying to imitate Japanese cuisine. It would be like Mexican cooking Japanese food not the same

Love this Japanese restaurant, they did renovate it a while back but finally was able to dine in again. The curry was a hit, the spicy miso ramen is always my go-to. Got some ice cream and Mochi for dessert. Definitely will be back next time I'm in town!

The service was good, the ambiance is nice. The ordering system needs work, you pay at the register and then find a seat, however all tables were taken so they were just asking you to stand to the side to take the takeaway orders while tables cleared. It's just odd. The food was not bad, but it wasn't great. I had the pork katsu curry with white rice, the curry had a good flavor however the pork katsu was not a good portion or that good. It was a very thin piece of chewy breaded pork. The fried pork gyozas were tasty and the dipping sauce was awesome. My bf had the tonkatsu ramen and he thought it was a 6.5/10.... He will write his own review about that separately. The mango creamy soda was yummy, but we only had a small amount because it has too much sugar and the green tea was great. We would probably not come back again unless we are in the area.

The noodles and bentos are always good here. We had the ramen and cold soba noodles and they were excellent. Friends had sushi and they were OK. Service is always friendly.

My first time dining at Yoshimatsu was really good. I can add another solid Japanese restaurant to my go to list. I tried their shishito peppers, veggie gyoza, and rainbow roll. I was very surprised when the peppers were brought to my table. The serving size was generous, I think this amount was good for 3-4 people. They had the best aroma and umami flavors going, I barely touched the dipping sauce they came with. The gyoza were crispy on the outside and veggie/gingery on the inside. I was happy to also notice that they weren't greasy, which is a huge plus. Finally, the rainbow roll - the fish was fresh and not chewy, all the usual flavors and textures you expect were there. The only downside was that the wasabi was on the weaker spiciness level this weekend. Service was good, I had no issues with finding a server for help. The dining room isn't that big, but I think the max capacity is around 40. If you like Japanese tchotchkes, there are some items in the front of restaurant that are available for purchase. There are a few parking spots in front, but there is a parking lot in the back as well. My car isn't low profile, but if yours is, be sure to take it slow entering the strip mall/lot.

I was trying to pick that perfect first shot at a Japanese spot in Tucson. And, VOILA! This place was really good and had a huge variety to choose from for the nostalgic eater for the variety of Japanese Street food items to Home Style meals all the way through to a lot of Fresh Mouthwatering sushi! My daughter was not sure how hungry she was so she went for the Veggie Bento which had a little bit of everything to satisfy her unknown hunger. LOLIt was kinda perfect. I think her Vegan friend could totally get this. Me, I really wanted to order a few rolls and maybe a side but my thing is to always try the Chirashi Sushi -on a first time-so as to experience the entire gamut of what they have and offer ~and no cover up in sauces and see how fresh it all is. AND the Chirashi really didn't disappoint! It was a behemoth! Kind of the most over the top Chirashi spread I think I have ever encountered AND it was ALL SO FRESH. Even the waiter realized he needs to order it at some point. I guess he was new and had not seen it yet and couldn't stop commenting on it. The only slight drawback was that the sushi rice bed was a little shallow for all that fish. Ginger was plentiful and fresh, not the pink stuff, maybe even homemade. Well, I definitely will be back as the Takoyaki at the table to my RIGHT looked kinda Huge and Amazing! (I don't even really care for Takoyaki too much! hahaha But the presentation looked so good) And I kinda want to see how the Curry is~probably try the Chicken Katsu Curry next time if I am looking for some Japanese comfort food. You would never think much of this plaace on a drive by- but inside was spacious and decked out in old Japanese ads and collectibles which gave it a relaxed local Japanese eatery vibe.

I have a new favorite spot in Tucson for Japanese food!! Yoshimatsu is a great spot and something that I'm very happy to have discovered here in Tucson. It has a great vibe and atmosphere inside of it - once you enter you forget that you're just in a strip mall location. It looks small but is surprisingly spacious within the dining area, which has a bit of a dark ambiance that I enjoyed. The decor is subtle and not too tacky, making it feel very relaxing and enjoyable within. Our order was taken without delay was all brought out with quick succession. I loved all of the plates that the meals came out on and the very heavy, authentic teapot for the jasmine green tea that we ordered for the table. I also got some of the hot sake, which was a lot of fun and a great accompaniment to the food. The food itself had great portions that fill you up without leaving you feeling completely stuffed. For appetizers, the edamame was perfectly salted and the veggie tempuras were cooked just right. I also thoroughly enjoyed my bento box meal that I ordered with the Chicken Katsu - it contained some greens and other side items such as some seaweed that were all very fresh and tasted great. The Chicken Katsu itself had a great sauce and was well cooked, and the generous amount of white rice that it came with was the perfect compliment to it. There was also numerous vegan food options available on the menu for those in our party that were looking for that, including a great veggie ramen and the option to get kale noodles with it. Great ambiance and vibe, quick service, and great food with goldilocks portions and very decent prices. I would love to return and I am happy to recommend!

I've been meaning to come to Yoshimatsu for years and finally made it after seeing their vegan Xochitl sushi roll. It's being offered for a limited time so be sure to try it while you can! Xochitl, pronounced "so-chill" is anything but chill! The roll is constructed with beautiful layers, different textures and colors. This isn't just another shallow or photographic roll though. It tastes as good as it looks and satisfies all of your senses. It features fried tofu, cucumber, and avocado topped with shishito peppers and lemon zest. The white sauce you see in the pictures is tofu puree. There was a little too much lemon zest for my taste but it's easy enough to remove some to your liking.
